Planning Ahead

Grades 9 & 10
Attending a college fair during your sophomore year in high school is a good way to begin exploring your college and university options. Information sheets, brochures and view books will be available at booths set up by colleges and universities, and representatives from those schools will be there to answer your questions. Introduce yourself to an admission counselor at the Fresno Pacific University booth. As you begin exploring different colleges and universities, keep in mind your interests, abilities and career goals. Decide which factors are important to you: type of institution, type of students, location, environment, size, courses, majors, cost and financial aid.

 Grade 11
Plan ahead to take college entrance tests. During your junior year in high school you should take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). You will need to take the SAT or the American College Test (ACT) by the Christmas break of your senior year. Your high school counselor will have a schedule of testing dates. When you register for the test, your counselor will give you a free study guide that will provide sample questions. The study guide also contains special hints on test-taking and gives correct answers and instructions for scoring your practice tests. When you take the SAT or ACT remember to list Fresno Pacific University as a recipient of your test scores.

Grade 12
One of the best ways to make a decision about a college is to visit the colleges and universities you are considering. Be sure to tour the campus, talk with professors, meet students and, if possible, stay in the dorms. Most colleges have special visitation days for high school seniors, and you should take advantage of them.

Plan now to visit FPU during our The Encounter days in October and November. Experience the classes, activities and people that make us distinct. Click on the above link or call the admissions office at 800-660-6089 or 559-453-2039 to register or to find more information. We welcome visitors at any time of the year. If you cannot come during the scheduled visitation days, be sure you visit when students are on campus rather than during a vacation break.
