"Syrinx" literally means the vocal organ of a bird. Since FPU's mascot is the Sunbird, the name The Syrinx is appropriate for the name of the student newspaper.

Our goal is to be the voice and mirror of the FPU community—a resource where information can be sought and a medium where ideas can be communicated. Our mission is to inform, review and challenge, and to foster dialogue about issues, events and ideas within our immediate FPU community and the world at large.
